Regional Network for Energy Accounting Services
The small energy agency in the rural area of Waldviertel (Lower Austria)
uses an intranet-based energy accounting system for more than 30 communities,
regional administrations and commercial energy consumers. This service
provides
a basis for further energy efficiency activities with the partners.

Programme for Energy-Efficient Communities
The energy label ‘e-5 programme for energy-conscious
communities’ was developed in 1998 and successfully introduced in the Austrian Federal states
of Vorarlberg, Tirol und Salzburg on the basis of the Swiss programme ‘Label Energiestadt’ (energy label city). Since then about 30 communities have joined the programme.
An auditing and labelling scheme offers orientation and rewards, and has already
achieved success and identified further requirements.

Optimization of Large Residential Buildings
The objective of this project was to improve the energy efficiency of large
residential buildings by using energy performance contracting (EPC) or energy
supply contracting (ESC). An energy service company (ESCO) finances, plans
and builds heat and power supply facilities in a housing structure and supplies
heat, hot water and, if required, power to the housing company at an agreed
price and at its own risk.

Management in Schools (BONUS)
So far 25 schools have joined the BONUS project in Upper Austria. Typical experiences
in pilot projects showed that energy demand in schools can be reduced by 10%
with non-investment measures only. In order to encourage participation, schools
are allowed to keep part of the savings. View Word document

Different Energy Conservation Measures in Typical Apartment Blocks
In the town of Radomir in Bulgaria different technologies for refurbishment
and different energy saving measures were used in three multi-dwelling panel
buildings. The improvement of the energy performance has been different for
each of the buildings.

Energy and
schools in Modena, Italy
Schools in Modena are involved a three pronged sustainable energy management
project covering:
- improvement of the building energy performance
- user behaviour
- the development of didactic projects.
Performance contracting is expected to save 30% of total heat consumption.
Renewable energy will provide 1.4%.
The main economic benefit for the Province is the improvement of the heating
facilities without investment costs. Environmental benefits are estimated in
2,200 tons of avoided CO2.

Centralised
System for Monitoring and Control of Heat in Bulgaria
A
centralised system for energy management (monitoring and control of heat consumption)
in 13 schools and kindergartens in the town of Veliko Tarnovo, Bulgaria shows
the benefits of energy management in public/municipal buildings.
Approximately 880 Gcal per year is saved which reduces the energy costs
by € 12234.
The pay back period is 2.61 years.

Recycling
Savings as well as Energy, Woking, UK
Woking Borough Council has reduced energy use by 37% and saved nearly £4,000,000
over 10 years. By recycling the savings it has spent £2.2 million on 85 energy efficiency projects for an investment of only £250 thousand.
