Stand by demonstration project in Zurich and Lausanne
Switzerland was the first country to take measures to reduce electricity consumption in stand-by mode at federal level at the start of the '90s, by defining target values for consumption and creating an energy label. Today, it continues to play its part as a precursor while actions are beginning to see the light of day at communal level, as the examples of Zurich and Lausanne demonstrate.

Demand Side Management in Jena
The consumption of domestic and office equipment in stand-by mode is estimated to be 20 TWh/year in Germany and a similar level in France. Municipal authorities, communal bodies and energy agencies have taken action on this in order to avoid or significantly reduce this superfluous consumption. In their most recent campaign to save energy entitled "Be clever when switching on", the Stadtwerke Jena announced a "golden age" to its customers. Its aim in distributing vouchers to every household is to encourage them to save energy.
