Introduction

Thermal heating equipment such as furnaces, ovens, kilns and dryers are commonly found in the ceramic, metal, chemical, glass, and advanced materials industries where they are used for heat treatment, baking, curing, drying, pollution control and other applications.

They all have similar operating principles: a fuel is burned and the heat produced is used to physically transform a product.

In the above mentioned industries, thermal heating equipment is usually the most important unit on which their production systems are based. They are generally the largest energy consumers in the plant. Therefore, making the best use of the equipment and optimising energy consumption, is the key to good operation and to saving energy and money.

Most of the saving options explained in Boilers and Electric furnaces such as good insulation, heat recovery from the product etc, can also be applied to these systems.
