New systems: What are the benefits?

Selecting the right heating system will save you money and energy. Below, we give the advantages of using commercial options such as night storage heaters, heat pumps, radiant floor distribution systems and independent meters for district heating.

Types of heating systems

Electrical heating using night storage heaters can reduce costs significantly by using cheaper electricity. However this does not actually save energy (in Spain the savings can be up to 55%). The efficiency of these systems is high, installation is simple and maintenance almost zero.

The main advantage of a heat pump is that it is able to deliver more energy than it uses. This apparent contradiction is because the equipment recovers free energy from outside sources (warm water or air). Its consumption can be up to 50% less than a conventional heating system in winter. In summer its consumption is similar to an air conditioning system.

Heat distribution systems

Distribution by radiant floors has the advantage of distributing heat, maintaining optimum moisture values and improving the temperature layering in each room. This system saves around 20-30% energy because the water thermal difference is lower than for radiators.

Independent meters for district heating systems

With these systems, each user can choose the most convenient temperature and operating times, paying a variable fee (depending on the heat consumed) plus a small fixed quota to cover the common expenses of the heating system. As each consumer pays for what they use, people take more care and are much less wasteful. Savings can be up to 30% of total consumption, with average pay-back periods of 2 years.

Finally, don't forget that by changing behaviour (see the step by step guide for existing systems) you can obtain significant energy savings at no financial cost.
